Beautiful carved statue of Hanuman, lifting and carrying the mountain Dronagiri. As told in the Ramayana, Lakshman, the brother of Rama was severely wounded during the war between Rama and the demon king Ravana. The only thing that could save the life of Lakshman was the herb Sanjivani. Hanuman went to the Himalayas to find the herb on Mount Dronagiri, but he had never seen it, so he did not know how it looked like. So he took the whole mountain and went back to the battlefield. The herb was given to Lakshman and he survived. Height 18.2 cm. In good condition. India, circa 1920.
