Composite panel of antique embroideries from the Ottoman Empire, made into a rectangular shaped woman’s prayer cloth indicating qibla, the direction of prayer. The basic fabrics are different plain weaves, embroidered with silk and metal wrapped threads, composed and sewn together in the Ottoman city of Salonika or Kavala. A striped plain weave cover, consisting of eight widths sewn together. Made of wool, dyed with natural colors. Most probably made by the Shahsavan nomads and dating from the 2nd half of 19th century.
