The metal base, here copper, was first engraved with special tools to create the design in relief, the grooves were later filled with glass and then embellished with additional engraving and shiny gilding. A book cover made for a Qur'an, the originating country being North African or in the Middle East. A coarse weave is embroidered with red in counted stitch and with metal wrapped thread. The back with padded embroidery. The inside with very soft white leather. Condition: some wear and leather with few stains and two corners unstuck. Dimension opened: 22.2 cm x 28.5 cm.
