|Rectangular embroidered panel, the green and red ground fabric is felt, often used in the 19th century China. Embroidered with silk and couched metal wrapped thread, the hem with attached macramé, tassels and metal disks. The upper pelmet with the name of the celestial kings, and the main register with six standing guardians, each holding their attributes. Partially floral border and edged with silk ribbons. Blue cotton lining. This pictorial valance shows in the center the four heavenly guardians also known as Lokapalas, flanked by two other heavenly potentates. They protect the world against attacks of evil spirits, often seen at the entrance of Buddhist temple. Condition: few tiny holes, loose and missing threads, silk ribbons consumed, macramé with imperfections and missing metal disks. Dimension without macramé: 50.5 cm x 302 cm.|
