A male front Mandarin square with a silver pheasant, denoting the fifth civil rank, shown against a cloud-filled sky with interspersed auspicious symbols. Counted stitch embroidery on gauze in colored silks and couched metal wrapped threads. These squares were only in use for a short time, Emperor Guangxu made in the late 19th century many reforms, also including a directed design for rank badges. Condition: minimal wear, few loose threads and some fading and patina. Dimension: total: 29.9 cm high x 30.9 cm wide.
