AN ATTIC RED FIGURE DRINKING CUP ATTRIBUTED TO THE WORKSHOP OF THE CODRUS PAINTER

CIRCA 430 B.C.

The tondo with a naked male athlete facing right, with arms outstretched, the exterior with black gloss. On the underside of base with dotted circle decoration, repaired from multiple fragments however all original. This kylix is attributed to the workshop of the Codras Painter and may be by his own hand. Measures 8.25 inches in diameter including handles...

Here you find a beautiful ancient Etruscan ceramic vase from circa the 6th-5th century B.C. Colour of this piece is dark black-brown with glaze. The oinochoe has a bulbous body tapering to the foot, ribbon handle and tall wide neck with tall cut back, curled pouring spout. Some remaining painted white vine and geometric decoration. Some surface deposits and minor paint loss, otherwise intact. Measures 7-3/4” in height.

AN EGYPTIAN WOOD URAEUS AND TWO DOUBLE PLUME HEADDRESSES

LATE PERIOD, DYNASTY XXI-XXX, 664-343 B.C.

Well carved wood Uraeus with a flaring hood, the end of the curving body bent backward. On top of the cobra, its head crowned by a solar disk. White gesso still present, solar disk re-attached. Here you find a fearsome Pre-columbian Moche vessel from the Moche III to VI period (200 to 400 AD). This Moche ceramic is the representation of death. Such a powerful object transcends all cultural boundaries and touches a chord deep within the human psyche and reminds us that death and the afterlife is still a mystery to mankind. This ancient guttus ceramic has a low rounded body with a flat, closed top decorated in tondo with a nymph riding on a hippocamp (hippocampi or hippocampus). The foot is in two degrees separated by a moulded ridge and buff ceramic. A straight vertical spout is set on the shoulder with a high arching handle. This calene vase is covered with black gloss with some surface growth. The name "Calene ware" is used for black gloss vases with relief decoration, produced in many places in Southern Italy...

Ancient Egyptian Ivory Clappers, Old Kingdom ca. 2649–2150 BC

Here you find two Egyptian clappers, they would have been joined at the end opposite the hands (similar to castanets) and were used as a musical instrument. Clappers were often played together with Sistra (stock# GD-407), Harps and Pipes. The curved shape of the clappers shows that they were made from hippopotamus tusks sawn in two down the centre...

Two uraei, in frontal view and joined together at the height of their bodies and at the solar disk. Statuette amulet showing nice details of the serpents'. On the front we find six alveoli, and solar disks which were meant to be filled with faience or glass paste, some of which is still present. Has what appears to be a suspension loop on the back. Dates to the Late period and measures 1.5" inches in height. Great condition!

Ancient Bronze amulet representing the Apis bull, standing in a walking position. On his head are the horns, the solar disc and the uraeus, and there is a suspension loop on the back. Has a nice patina and dates to the Late Period. Measures 1"inch in height. Very nice piece!

While it was alive the Apis bull was regarded as the Ba of Ptah and its sanctuary was near the temple of Ptah in Mennefer...

Here you find a very detailed early Roman mould made oil lamp, circa late 1st-early 2nd century AD. On the discus we find a Murmillo Gladiator facing left, a dagger in his right hand, wearing a visored helmet with tall detailed double crest, a greaves on both legs and a belt worn over his loin-cloth. Measures 3.25"inches at longest point. In good condition with some wear, deposits and broken nozzle.

Ancient Roman oil lamp from circa 100 AD. The central scene in tondo of the circular lamp, shows in raised relief an erotic scene. An encounter of a man and women on a bed, women facing forward and on all four limbs. Erotic lamps as this one, with an open depictions of eroticism would have been used to light bed chambers throughout the Roman Empire. This oil lamp is in good condition with deposits, however nozzle now missing. Measures 3" inches in diameter.

Beautiful White Ground Lekythos from the Tymbos Group or workshop. This Greek Attic lekythos has a round base, cylindrical body and tapering towards the foot. The tall narrow neck which broadens out into a thick wide rim and a strap handle, shoulder reserved with rays at the base of the neck.
