Lovely twin-handled jar, made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase circa 2300 to 2000 B.C. of Majiayao culture and also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture. Comes from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. Nice geometric patterns painted onto the surface with mineral-based purplish pigment. This pottery Jar measures in at 11" H. In good condition with a small fracture as seen in photo. Well priced for its size. Provenance: Ex. New York Collection. |
