Ancient Vicus Ceramic Figure : Pre-Columbian Art
Here you find a very fine Vicus orangeware pottery figural vessel, depicting a bound and kneeling prisoner. This figure has the typical hook nose and large eyes found in much of the vicus pottery. Also has a small rear spout and bridge handle with mineral deposits on much of the surfaces. Dates to circa 100 BC and measures 7.75 inches in height. The Vicus is from a region of Northern Peru and is still shrouded in mystery! Ancient Art from the Vicus culture is very rare.

Provenance: New York Art Gallery.
