| This is an elegant set of 12 antique Victorian porcelain plates, ca. 1880, handpainted in an intricate scrolling foliate pattern in rich gold gilt; all plates have an underglaze mark of an eagle over a crown in red; also marked "handpainted" and "Austria." One plate has the mark of Thomas-Sevres-Bavaria, a well-known 19th Century producer of blanks for handpainting; this mark is overpainted on all other plates. Condition: very good; slight gilt wear on some rims; one rim chip has been filled and regilded. Measurement: 8 _ in. diam. | |||||||||
