A special box that is both spiritual and practical. This is an unusual rectangular bronze casket-form in ornate Gothic Revival style, having cast bas relief, highly decorated with religious motif illustrating scenes from the life of Christ; circa 1870's. The original interior is lined with balsa wood and most likely used as a tobacco cigar caddy box. These boxes were popular souvenirs of the European Grand Tour and were based of the great treasures of Continental Europe. The high quality of workmanship and wonderful decoration makes this box very desirable. Measurements: 5 3/4"long x 3 1/2" wide x 3" high. Condition is excellent, high patina, richly detailed.
