| Height 3,8 cm. Signature: Tadachika. Masks are probably the most antique subject matter for netsukes, as they were carved by the same artisans who were producing masks for theatre plays. Producing groups of masks brings to a miniaturization of the models, so that the ability of the netsukeshi consists in carving the exact details of each face and make all of them recognizable. Masks of this netsuke derive from vaious kind of theatre: there are two Onis, Ayakashi (?) and Kitsune on upper side and Shikami, Usofuki, Okina and Okame on the lower one. | ||
