This gorgeous Art Deco bangle from a New Orleans estate was hand-carved from butterscotch galalith (casein), the French equivalent of Bakelite. It's in excellent condition, with all carved details sharp, and measures 7/8" at widest point, 1/2" at narrowest point. Inside diameter is 2 1/2" and outside diameter is 3 1/2". Though I don't claim expertise in the area of early plastic jewelry, I did test this piece with hot water and it smells like "wet wool" - indicating the protein content of Galalith. It's really a divine bracelet of a type that's getting increasingly hard to find. Please e-mail erinharris@earthlink.net for detail photos. |
