Rare Vermeil Garnet Victorian Snake Necklace
If you've been reading the fashion news, you know jewelry of snake design is HOT - one the most "in" things today. The Victorians were equally passionate about snake motifs and this breathtaking 19th century serpent necklace is an excellent example. It has a vermeil (gold over silver) snake's head with ornate repousse work and engraving. The eyes are garnet stones, which I was told are natural. Length is 17 1/2" and the head measures 3/8" wide. The tail feeds into the mouth to close the necklace and this clasp appears secure despite old repairs visible only at the back. The piece looks perfect from the front, without flaws to detract from its beauty. Although you really have to inspect the back closely to notice any glitches, our pricing naturally reflects the flaw. It would cost at least twice as much, if perfect. The chain appears to be gilded brass mesh.

There's no charge for insured U.S. shipping and gift wrap is also free on request. Please e-mail erinharris@comcast.net to confirm availability, order or request more photos. Thanks for looking!
