GlitzQueen History and Art to Wear
Sold; thank you!
These antique double-sided cufflinks from a Michigan estate would look equally elegant on a man or a woman. Shaped as octagons measuring 5/8" in each direction, they feature layers and layers of gorgeous engraving, elaborate zigzag edges and central plaques to monogram, if you choose.
All details are as clear and crisp as on the day these were made. I expect that day was no later than in 1905, based on the type of connectors used and the styling. Most Belais cufflinks found today are Art Deco, but these are certainly a Late Victorian or Edwardian type. Notice that the fasteners are double stirrups, rarely seen after the 19th century.
Each of the links is signed 14K Belais White Gold Front, along with the P.S.M. Co. stamp. As you may know, the Belais brothers were the *gods* of white gold jewelry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. When you possess a piece marked 'Belais,' quite simply you own the best of the best. With fashion's return to the elegance of French cuffs, antique cufflinks are flying off our shelves as fast as we can get them, especially this superlative brand. If you like these, you'd better not delay.
Thanks for looking!
