Here's a great group of vintage hair accessories from the mid-20th century and earlier. The star is the 3.5-inch French hairpin of mock tortoiseshell, crowned by an Art Nouveau medallion of silver metal worked in repousse. The comb, marked France, is of a type used from the 1920s, but the dual portrait medallion is from around 1900. I'm sure it began life in another form, possibly as a button top. At some point these were glued together and the result is remarkably beautiful.
Rounding out the collection are three combs and a ponytail holder from the 1940s, also of faux tortoise. Two are blonde tortoise, with a lot of color contrast, measuring about 3 inches wide. The others, similar in size, are auburn-toned. One blonde comb is missing an outer tooth, but that wouldn't be seen in use.
The group has been assembled from various estate collections. These accessories will be perfect with the Retro-inspired hairstyles so fashionable this season.
