Titled "A Bundle of Charm" (left) and "Maidenhood" (right), these two sweet Victorian engravings come in original frames of ebonized wood and gilt. The frames have the look popular circa 1850-1870, when the Aesthetic Movement favored furnishings lacquered in black to emulate ebony (a style influenced by Japan).
Framed size of each is about 11 1/2" x 13 3/4" and the signature, "Printed by McQueen," appears on both. The image at left is also signed "S. B. Halle" and "F. Holl," while the one at right is signed "J. Simmons" and "W. T. Davey." Frame wear and print discoloration attest to the age of these pictures and, in my opinion, add to their charm. Naturally we've priced the set to reflect imperfections; the cost would be a great deal higher, if they were pristine.
