Interesting French plate, transfer printed in black with a scene from the Bouffes Parisiens playhouse. The motif copies a drawing by Ch. Hamlet for the Charivari or some other satirical journal. The back of the plate reveals the name of the play: La Quenouille de Verre (the glass distaff) and some lines apparently well known to the Parisian audience of the 1870's. Height: 2 ½”/6,5 cm. Saucers, contemporary but not belonging, provided without extra cost (cf. the last photo). Condition: both handles have been professionally mended.
