A pair of sake cups / bowls, thinly potted Japanese porcelain in white and gold with decoration of Ho-o birds and chrysanthemum, both of which symbolize happiness and prosperity. Unsigned, Meiji. An identical pair was in the collection of businessman Gustaf Wallenberg who also served as Sweden’s envoyé /ambassador to Tokyo and Beijing in 1907 - 1918.These sake bowls seem to have been gifts from the Japanese emperor to foreign dignitaries. Japanese cigarette case / tobacco box, lacquer on copper with mother of pearl inlay of flowers and birds to both sides. Made in Nagasaki and exported to Europe, where it was given as a Christmas present in 1867 - dedication and date engraved to the inside of the box lid. Measures: 6 " / 15.2 x 3 " / 7.3 cm, height 2/3 ” / 1.7 cm. Condition: the lid with cracks and some loss to the lacquer.

An interesting antique staghorn walking stick with an excellently carved male head – a portrait? The partly dark and dotty structure of the horn is skilfully used to underline the grotesque character of the face. The stick was found in Sweden and the silver mounting between handle and stick bears hallmarks from Dalecarlia in Sweden and year mark for 1891. However, the handle was certainly not made in Sweden. A late 19th century souvenir: miniature bone binoculars depicting Catskill Mountain House, another hotel building, waterfalls and more (can be seen, but not photographed). Cloisonné enamel charger or large dish with flowers and a flying bird against a mustard yellow ground, the back with a swirl pattern. Late Meiji or early Taisho, c 1900.
