A very small cast iron wall plaque, a miniature version of the decorative reliefs sometimes preserved from old German cast iron ovens. The details of this casting are extremely fine. The scene is of a forest road with coal wagons being pulled by horses, followed by a man with a whip. Cup and saucer presented by Mr von Quast to his friend Mr von Laffert in 1837. The archives of the German nobility tell us that the wife of Hermann von Quast was born Laffert, and so Mr von Laffert was probably the giver’s brother-in-law. The saucer with inscription: H. v. Quast seinem H. v. Laffert d. 13t Januar 1837. The archives also state that January 13 was Hermann von Laffert’s birthday.
