Many Staffordshire figures were modelled after well-known contemporary characters. This is Cobbler Jobson at work, a small cat peeping out from under his stool. The Cobbler appeared in a popular English farce first played in the 18th century. He was reproduced all through the next hundred years, by Samuel Hall, Wood & Caldwell and others. This is an early version. Interesting marks to base. Height "6/ 15,5 cm. Condition: old restorations and a firing crack to one leg (cf pics.).

To one side transfer printed in black with an English mansion in classic style, in the foreground a lake and to gentlemen fishers, to the other side a lady and a small girl in a garden (traces of the same motif to the inside of the bowls). Height "3½/ 8,5 cm and diameter "6/ 15 cm. Condition: wear to the decoration and a hairline to one bowl.

An English sugar bowl by Maling, together with three small Maling plates or ashtrays, all lustreware in the Venice scenes pattern, 1950-1955. Maling, known for their lustre glaze patterns ceased their production in 1963. All four pieces with the castle mark used from the 1920’s to 1963. An unusual wine or tea cup with symmetrical decoration of flowers in thick overglaze blue, and Shou signs in iron red and gilt. Chinese, Jiaqing period or earlier. The heavy blue overglaze enameling emulates the cut decoration of some of the Qianlong overlay glass. Diameter "2¼/ 6 cm, height "1½/ 4 cm. These little elegant pair of Jue is from the early 19th century, made of silvered and engraved bronze or brass.
