A very small cast iron wall plaque, a miniature version of the decorative reliefs sometimes preserved from old German cast iron ovens. The details of this casting are extremely fine. The scene is of a forest road with coal wagons being pulled by horses, followed by a man with a whip. In the foreground another man (most probably the landowner) sits in a laid-back position, smoking his pipe. Cast signature in the left corner: C S v(on) Schwarzenborn in Halberstadt sc(ulpsit). Around 1850 or slightly earlier. Unusual. Width "5½/ 14 and height "3½/ 9 cm. Condition: fine.
