French transfer printed plate, Bouffes Parisiens
A French plate by Creil & Montereau, marks for Barbluet & Cie period (1877-84). Transfer printed in black with a scene from a popular theatre play, from a drawing by Ch. Hamlet for the Charivari or some other satirical journal. The back gives the title of the play: La Quenouille de Verre (the glass distaff) and some lines apparently well known to the Parisian audience of the 1870's. Cf A-M MariŽn-Dugardin, FaÔences fines, Brussels 1975, p. 92. Diam: 8"/ 20,5 cm. Condition: small rim chips, one at 7 and one at 11 o'clock.
