|There is a touch of whimsy in this long Georgian chain. Rounded and gold dotted links, as those we find in most chains from 1820 are present, but caged with dotted oval wraps. They alternate with smooth rounded neighbors. Light as air, and comfortable, we think of this piece as links of hot air balloons. The condition is original and strong . A beautiful gold and turquoise reeded clasp keeps the necklace secure. It apprears to be original and is embossed matching the links, with added scrolls and little sunshine patterns. The clasp is a handsome jewel in its own right and would be placed to the side of the chest, in full view. The necklace easily wraps twice and naturally is wonderful worn long. When wrapped three times it becomes a choker. Chains were staples in the Georgian era. They were worn long, short and in between combined with multiple varieties of jewels on the fingers, neckline, and ears. Women don less jewelry today than they did in the early 19th century, and a single unique and antique chain will be well worn with pride and pleasure.|
