|Modern in design and striking on a jacket lapel, this 15k gold Scottish agate and citrine brooch defies its 150 years. The form is a replica of a dirk, a small armament hung from the belt of a man's attire. The dirk, a part of highland attire since the 17th century, is still worn at court. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had deep admiration for the history and traditions of Scotland. They wore and popularized Scottish attire, including traditional Scottish jewelry. We offer this glowing example of a dirk composed of warm scottish agate and cairngorn, soft in color and set in 15kt gold. Rare is the Scottish jewel made of gold, rare as well is its perfect condition. Measuring 3 3/4 inches in length, width at widest point just under 1/2 inch, this brooch maintains a delicate proportion and appearance. Dated c.1860-1880.|
