 Large Silver French Horn Brooch

Paul Lobel, an American a well known modernist jewelry designer, fashioned this sculptural french horn in sterling in a striking style and size. Lobel, a New York artist, made a series of jewelry in musical instrument forms. This french horn is one of his 1950's series. The curved bottom of the horn ends in a raised rim, a finish that gives it perspective and depth a Additionally striking is the creation of open space through which fabric will show. .When placed on a solid color background, this positive, negative aspect is sculptural. Critically placed curls of silver give the french horn whimsy akin to cheerful musical sound. The pin stem is long and strong with a safety clasp. Signed Lobel, Sterling. Excellent condition. c.1950's Measurements: L.3 5/8, H. 2 in.
