| This is an exquisite Japanese Satsuma vase. As fine as any Yabu Meizan piece and better than many. Many believe that Meizan was in fact early Yabu Meizan. This is debatable but what I do know is that many of the artists that worked for meizan later on worked for the Yabu factory. It is cylinder in shape, standing 5" tall. Intense rich mercury fired gold, it literally glows. The top rim has rich colors and gold brocade. Further down are monkeys swinging from gold vines and flower heads. The central area of the vase features children romping and following an adult in a processional ceremony. At the base and foot are bands of brocade and geometric patterns. Meizan mark in gold on the bottom is a bit worn otherwise the vase is in near mint condition. | |||||||||||
