| An antique lightning rod insulator in a light greenish blue color that comes with its original clamp, circa 1851 - 1860. This insulator is shown on page 97 in The Glass Industry In Sandwich book Volume 4. This type of insulator was used to hold a lightning rod away from a building, the clamp was screwed into the wall and held the insulator upright, the rod went through the hole and was grounded away from the building. This type of insulator was also used horizontally; put through a wooden wall which allowed the wires to come in from any angle and prevented chafing; and if struck by lightning prevented a fire. | ||
