Antique Bunko or letter box is covered by basket, be woven with very fine peeled bamboo or vines, on the wooden base. The flowers, bamboo and tiger are made with gold, black, burnt umber and red Takamakie lacquer technique directly on the basket base. Its interior of the cover and bottom are black lacquer finish. Date from the mid to late Edo period (early 18th-mid 19th century). Measurements: 14 5/8" (37cm) by 10 7/8" (27.5cm) and 3 3/4" (9.6cm) height. Weight about : 1160 grams Due to age, there are some damages on the edge of basket, scratches on the base and a minor gap between basket and wooden base of the cover. It is sturdy and good condition. |
