This tray is decorated with Togidashi-makie or scraped lacquer technique ( the design is painted in lacquer, and gold or silver powder is sprinkled over it, when the lacquer is dry, black lacquer is applied over the entire surface, after it has dried it is burnished until the gold powder is faintly revealed ). Very fine swimming Mandarin-ducks and landscape of gold powder togidashi-makie on a Roiro (deep black) lacquer ground. Date Meiji Period (1868-1912). Measurements : 10" (25.5cm) by 10" (25.5cm) and 1 3/8" (3.5cm) height. It is in good condition and comes with old wooden box. |
