Very fine Nanga or scholar painting features bamboo grove, rock and Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum). Painted in rich colors, especially Rokusho green (verditer) is wonderful. Signed artist name "Chikugai Jun" and sealed. Jun is his first name. Himejima Chikugai (1840-1928) was a samurai of Fukuoka at first. After the Meiji Restoration, moved to Osaka and become a pillar of Nanga (the Southern school of Chinese painting) art world. Akamatsu Unrei and Mizuta Chikuho are his disciples. Measurements about : 77 1/8" x 21 1/4" (196cm x 54cm), Painted area : 48 7/8" x 16 1/8" (124cm x 40.8cm). Painted with ink and color on silk.
