Beautiful American Victorian mourning brooch, featuring plaited brown hair in a 14k gold, enamel and seed pearl setting. Inscribed “In Memory of” in gold letters on the front (all letters are bright), it reads “My Beloved Papa/Died October 25th 1854/Aged 44 years”. Very good condition; three chips to black enamel. Hinge is reinforced. Measures 1 3/4” by 1 1/2”.

Fabulous 19th century cut steel pendant earrings, always so hard to find. Cut steel jewelry was meant to simulate diamonds; the “stones” were faceted polished steel. Each “stone” had a post in the back which was inserted into a metal base to form a multitude of designs. Great all-original condition. Measure 2 3/8” from top of wire to bottom.

Wonderful all-original 18th century mourning brooch, in sepia and hair on ivory. Set in 9k gold with a blue enamel border, the scene depicts two women in classical dress mourning at a tomb with an urn; one leans on an anchor, which may indicate that the mourned gent was a seafaring man, or may just be a symbol of hope or death. The tomb’s dedication reads: “Affection weeps, heaven rejoices”...
