The purse is fashioned of cream satin and decorated with chain stitched floral embroidery, moss green and dusky pink velvet bands , gold metallic lace, spangles, and beads. This gold Georgian band packs a lot of family history into a very small package! It is both a wedding or engagement ring and a mourning ring. The inscription on the interior reads: “ACD to DBM May 7 1807”. Added later, the inscription continues: “to ACD died Aug 23rd 1838 aged 54”. The outside of the band is engraved “Desier 1897”. The reverse of the ring is inscribed with an image of forget-me-nots, a common message of affection on early jewelry.
