A wonderful Georgian mourning brooch, in sepia and chopped hair on ivory, depicting a lady in classic dress gazing at a lamb (and the lamb, perched on a pedestal or tree trunk, is gazing sweetly back!). The glazed reverse features plaited brown hair; and the piece is set in 9k bright cut gold. Very good condition: there are tiny flakes of hair or paint, but it’s very, very clean. Rare and lovely early 19th century mourning brooch, in sepia, chopped hair and watercolor on ivory. Set in silver, the brooch features a landscape with a sunset tinted sky. Trees and grass are fashioned of hair; one tree has been broken and hangs over a tomb on which is inscribed “Wiedersehn” – “Goodbye”!
