| Continental School portrait miniature of an old soldier, circa 1780, in watercolor on ivory. The elderly sitter is full of character, an old campaigner. He is somewhat stooped, carrying his hat in his left hand and his sword in his right; his belt is quite splendid! Painting is in very good condition, with some dust under the glass. Gilt gesso frame shows wear and chips and some losses to inner border. Sight size 2 ¼” by 1 ¾”; with frame 4 ¾’ by 4 ¼’. | ||||||
