Miniature Portrait, Man Pink Hair, Henry Bone

A wonderful portrait miniature of a gentleman with pink powdered hair, by English master Henry Bone (1755-1834). This comical gent wears a blue coat, white waistcoat and white frilly cravat. The portrait is signed with Bone’s monogram and dated: “HB 1793.” A modern label on the reverse indicates the piece is in watercolor on card; I’m quite sure it’s ivory. Bone started his career painting china, eventually moving to London, where he enjoyed a successful career as a miniaturist, working in enamel and less often, on ivory, and where he enjoyed the patronage of such elevated person as George III, George IV and William IV. He fathered many successful artists, including Henry Pierce Bone and William Bone. Set in a gilt metal frame; measures 2 ¼”. Condition is very good; some scuffing near edge at 2 o’clock.
