Portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young gent, bearing an inscription attributing the work to C. W. Day. The sitter wears a brown coat, and a white vest and cravat. His cheeks are ruddy and his chestnut hair is fashionably disheveled. The inscription on the reverse is a bit hard to read from water damage: “C W Day delt 1815, Samuel Burgess aged 25.” Day worked in London, Florence and the West Indies; in 1815 he was in England. Good condition; a little rubbing to body color at the bottom edge; wear to frame. Measures 4 3/4” by 4 1/4”; sight size is 2 1/2” by 2”.
