| A fine miniature portrait on ivory in a gold brooch setting, circa 1770. This painting is signed ("ND") by Modest School artist Nathan Drake who, according to Foskett, painted in York from the 1750's to the early 1780's. A member of the Society of Artists, he exhibited in London and York. His son was essayist Nathan Drake. This wonderful portrait depicts a wide-eyed young man in a white cravat with a gold pin, wearing a black vest and coat. The reverse features a glazed locket back with a brown silk insert. Measures 1 1/2" by 1 1/4". Very good condition except for minor paint loss at the bottom edge. | |||||
