| Rare seventeenth century Stuart crystal, in the form of a stickpin. Stuart crystal jewelry came into fashion after the 1649 execution of King Charles (Stuart) I; his followers began to wear objects made of faceted, pink-foiled crystal containing his initials in gold, laid on a bed of hair or fabric. People continued to wear such jewelry, but adapted for personal use, into the 18th century. This pin shows its 300 plus years age: there are traces of foil left; some of the gold wire is loose; there is wear to the crystal; and a repair to the pin stem. But it’s great looking and rare! Crystal measures 3/8”; with pin nearly 1”. | |||||||
