Oil on board painting, "Monhegan Island ME", by Edmund Franklin Ward (1892-1991). Condition excellent. Provenance; artist estate. Measures; 24"x20" His first illustrations was for the "Saturday Evening Post" before he was age 20, Edmund Ward (1892-1991) had a successful career as an illustrator of works that ranged in style and subject matter from dark tonalist in oils to humorous in wash and watercolor. He illustrated the Alexander Botts and Assistant District Attorney Doowinkle stories for the "Post." Born in White Plains, New York, where he spent most of his career and where he also painted a mural for the Federal Building. He studied at the Art Students League with Norman Rockwell with whom he shared a studio. His teachers at the League were Thomas Fogarty, Edward Dufner, and George Bridgman. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club, the Guild of Freelance Artists, and a member of the Society of Illustrators. Auction record in ask art is $16100.00 on a painting that is 24 x 32 oil on canvas sold on 08/19/2006
