Pottery Rattle, Hellenistic Period ca. 330 - 63 BCE, found in the Holy Land. Cylindrical shape with flaring ends with pottery ball bearing inside for rattle. 3 1/2" long and in excellent condition. Among the first gifts that a child received were games and small objects that were hung from the neck as amulets. Rattles (shakers), crotala (platages), piggy-banks in the shape of a pig, etc were all included in these first games.

Terracotta Cuneiform Clay Tablet, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. Tablet is covered with inscriptions used during this time for communication. Cuneiform writing, made by pressing the characters into wet clay with a stylus, originated with the Sumerians, who later merged with the Assyrians and Babylonians. It is one of the earliest forms of writing. 2 1/4" in height by 3" in length and in excellent condition. Found in the Holy Land.
