Syro-Hittite Pottery Bird Faced Goddess, Astarte, ca. 2000 BCE. The astartes were found in the home and were commonly buried beneath doorposts to ensure the fertility of the women of the household, abundant crops, and to bring good things to fruition. Sculpted with birdlike face, arms supporting circular breasts. Female features clearly defined. 5 1/4" in height and excellent condition.
