| Black Mesa, black on white duck pot, Pueblo II Period, ca. 900-1100 CE. Handle extending from neck to body. Painted in Anasazi Mineral-paint tradition. Found on private land near Camp Verde, Arizona. A rare and exciting piece, intact and in excellent condition. 4 1/2 inches high and 7 inches long. Designs of Black Mesa: bowl interiors and jar exteriors only; bowl bottoms undecorated; jar bottoms undecorated; rims unpainted; stripes and wide straight horizontal lines, rarely curved lines, large solid triangles, isosceles and elongated; triangles sometimes in opposed series forming rows of open diamonds; stepped elements rare, solid squares rare, solid areas with large pendent dots; interlocking scrolls.
