Jama Coaque Pottery Maskette
$1,200

Jama Coaque Pottery Maskette, Ecuador, ca. 400 BCE - 500 CE. Maskette with white hollow eyes, pursed lips and protruding chin. Pierced ears and eyes with furrowed brow. On custom stand. Mask is 3 1/2" diameter. In excellent condition. Ex: The Lands Beyond, New York. The Jama-Coaque communities were skilled in creating ceramic pottery items as well, which again showed that they were a very sophisticated tribe. The pottery recovered from the sites is on display at the Jama Municipal Museum. Tragically, the entire culture was lost when the Spanish invaded Ecuador on a mission to conquer the Inca Empire.
