Early Qing Dynasty Blue White Guan / Wine Porcelain Jar

Early Qing Dynasty Blue & White porcelain Guan / Wine Jar with Phoenix design is forerunner of the Ginger Jar. Originally used for wine and pickled liquids they had no covers but used wood tops that were waxed closed. Circa 1750 C.E., 6 3/4" high. Crane (he 鹤) The crane is a symbol of longevity because it lives a long life and its white feathers stand for old age. It also represents high status as the crane is regarded as ‘a bird of the first rank’ in the imperial hierarchy. Flying cranes symbolizes a wish or hope to become an official in a higher position.
