Gallo Roman Limestone Head of Emper Macrinus
Gallo Roman Limestone Head possibly depicting Emperor Macrinus. Found in Cologne or Trier (Treves.) Gallo Roman describes the Romanized culture of Gaul (present day France) under the rule of the Roman Empire. His beard neatly detailed, the hair sculpted neatly around face, large heavy lids, recessed irises, and thinly curved lips. Some pigment remaining. Obvious damage to nose but otherwise in excellent condition. 2nd Century C.E., 18 1/2" high. Ex: Michel Gehain collection, Florida.
