Cypriot Pottery Slab Figurine of a Goddess, circa 3rd Century BCE, found in Holy Land. Elaborate headdress, broad nose, and pouting lips with hair of knobby curls. Professional repair at neck (see image) but otherwise in excellent condition. Figure 5 3/4" high. On custom stand. Ex: M. Migiddon collection, Israel. Cyprus, more specifically the seashore at Paphos, was also one of the birthplaces given in Greek mythology for Aphrodite, who was known as Kýpria. This was because Astarte, goddess of love and beauty in Phoenician mythology, for whom Cyprus was an important cult center, was later identified with Aphrodite.
