Purchased in the King David Hotel, Israel, 1980, 18K / Sterling Silver Necklace, Jerusalem of Gold, by Michael Ende. In excellent condition with pendant 2 1/4" high x 1" wide. Chain is 20 1/2" long from end to end. On obverse the Hebrew words Jerusalem of Gold and Lion of Judah. On the obverse signed by Michael Ende, artist of Jerusalem Israel, a cityscape scene of Jerusalem with the markings 18K & 925 (Sterling Silver). Hebrew script which translates to a greeting for the New Year & a wish for peace. Michael Ende is a pioneer artist in the field of Judaica. Born in 1946, this eighth generation Jerusalemite graduated the Ort school, majoring in precision mechanics. He went on to specialize in working with gems and crystals, making art his profession in 1970. Well-known as one of the few artists working in various art forms, Michael Ende's diverse selection of materials produces spectacular results. He is one of Israel's top creative designers and artists, from Judaica, sculpture and textile to interactive media and other futuristic modes. Furthermore, Ende is the only artist in the Middle East who successfully manufactures and designs watches. While designing art for the rich & famous, Michael Ende's work has been exhibited in Israel, the US & Europe, as well as being presented by the Israeli government to leaders of many countries and corporations around the world. Most of the official gifts presented by the State of Israel, including those given to the king of Morocco, the king of Spain, the British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth of England, US presidents Jimmy Carter & Bill Clinton, the Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev, Mrs. Anwar Sadat (who received the peace pendant), as well as many other dignitaries. In 1988, at Israel's 40th Independence Day, he was chosen artist of the year by The Bonds. Michael Ende has earned his fame by winning numerous international design awards for his groundbreaking artwork, as well as for his contribution to the now established market of modern Judaica. He is a true visionary and inventor, with a unique way of turning his visions into reality. Specializing in innovative product design, manufacture and packaging, he also utilizes his talent for business development. Michael Ende is a member of the Painters & Sculptors Association.
