This wonderful painting on board is titled BOWL OF COINS, by artist Ion Dreptu or Ioan Dreptu. Signed and dated 1989, this European artist from Transylvania, Romania, captures a wonderful still life image of an old metal bowl with coins spilling onto a table. The rich colors of this piece are complemented by the handmade wood frame, which was built and painted by the artist himself.
Keep in mind that the year this was painted, 1989, marked the Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. This historical moment in time, greatly impacted the painting style and work of the dissident Romanian artist. This painting is a reflection of the artist new direction.
