The Judge by Ioan Dreptu (Romanian 1944-2008)
We are very fortunate to offer another fine painting by the artist Ioan Dreptu or Ion Dreptu. This is an exceptional example of the artist talent and his ability to paint abstract and surreal works of art. This piece with its striking image is titled The Judge, and was painted in 1984. Due to the politics of the Communist regime, works like this were censured and not allowed to be shown. Yet this Romanian dissident artist continued to paint his nonconformist work and developed a following among many in the Eastern European art community. Some of his works or reminiscent to those of Kandinsky, Klee and Miro.
The painting is oil on canvas and is complemented by a handmade wood frame, which was built by the artist himself. The condition of the painting is very good, as is the frame.
