An ethnographic textile weaving from Indonesia: a tampan cloth from Western Sumatra. Note the abstract figures woven throughout the piece. There is some wear and staining to this textile. Tampan cloths ceased to be made around the turn of the century due to changing economic and social conditions in Indonesia. This piece dates to 1890.
